Arrived Australia June 1966 as pearling technician and marine biologist. Employed by Pearls Pty Ltd of Perth and transferred to Thursday Island branch farm.

Formed Thursday Island Shoku-kai Karate club by request of Island community in 1966.

Resigned company to open professional Karate Dojo in Cairns in 1975.

Matsumoto Karate Academy formed and commenced training on 12th January 1976 and celebrated it's 33rd anniversary in 2008.

Major Awards  

2008 senior sportsman of the year by Cairns City.

Recognition by Council General of Consulate of Japan of Brisbane.

2000  Australian Sport Medal by Prime Minister.

1998 Ministerial Sport Encouragement Award by Federal sport minister.
